Why UTRGV?
I chose UTRGV because it felt like a second home. Being from Brownsville, staying close to my roots was important, and UTRGV offers everything I wanted in a university and more. It's a place where I feel I can grow both academically and personally, not to mention that it’s a beautiful campus.

What made you decide on your current major?
I chose Information Systems because, to me, data is like the new money. In today's world, data drives everything – from business decisions to the technology of the future such as AI. I've always been fascinated by how powerful data can be when it's used right. Additionally, the advantage of being able to work in about any industry like healthcare, technology, oil, and gas, and more is a huge plus.

What do you hope to achieve beyond completion of your major?
Upon completing my major, I aspire to become a data scientist, utilizing my skills to analyze and interpret complex data sets to help organizations make smart and informed decisions. I envision myself being a lifelong learner and constantly growing in this field.

What do you like most about UTRGV?
What I love most about UTRGV is the sense of community. The campus is lively and beautiful, with modern facilities and green spaces that make it a great place to study. The professors are not just knowledgeable, but they genuinely care about our success. Plus, the opportunities for hands-on learning and internships have been fantastic in preparing me for my future career.

What does being a Vaquero mean to you?
Being a Vaquero means being part of a family that supports and uplifts each other. It's about embracing our unique culture and heritage and taking pride in our roots.

What opportunities has UTRGV helped you find throughout your community?
UTRGV has opened so many doors for me. During my time as a data analyst intern at UTRGV’s School of Podiatric Medicine, I got to work on curriculum mapping and data analysis, which was a huge learning experience. Now, as an Information Technology intern at UT System University Lands, I'm gaining practical hands-on experience and learning so much about the vast field of IT. These internships have not only boosted my skills but also connected me with amazing professionals and mentors.

What advice do you have for fellow students pursuing their degrees?
My advice to fellow students is to make the most of every opportunity UTRGV offers. Get involved, talk to your professors, and don't be afraid to ask for help. Internships and hands-on experiences are gold, so take them whenever you can. Build your network, join clubs, and participate in extracurricular activities – they really enrich your university experience. And most importantly, believe in yourself and be around people who believe in you, it goes a long way.
