Why UTRGV?
UTRGV feels like home. My mom and two brothers graduated from here, and the university community understands the unique challenges of growing up on the border. It's a place where I feel culturally connected and grateful for a second chance at higher education.

What made you decide on your current major?
Following a detour from nursing school, managing a restaurant in Austin ignited my passion for business. Recognizing the value of transferable skills, accounting emerged as the ideal path – a versatile toolkit applicable in any location.

What do you hope to achieve beyond completion of your major?
Earning my degree is just the first step. Not only can I help my family, but beyond that my dream is to empower my community, particularly back in south Pharr. The Rio Grande Valley's potential is undeniable, and I'm driven to contribute to its growth and prosperity.

What do you like most about UTRGV?
UTRGV brought me back home – literally and figuratively. It reconnected me with my community and family after years in Austin. Here, I not only represent my roots, but professors who support and inspire me make all the difference.

What does being a Vaquero mean to you?
Being a Vaquero embodies the Rio Grande Valley's spirit – resilient and ambitious. We, the students, are like Vaqueros, facing challenges head-on. UTRGV equips us with the tools to not just survive, but to thrive. We're the next generation, building a brighter future for our Valley.

What opportunities has UTRGV helped you find throughout your community?
UTRGV has transformed me into an active community member. Through Beta Alpha Psi, I volunteered at the animal shelter. Professor Michael Flores mentored me as I led a team for the National Collegiate Digital Marketing Championship. Professor Linda Acevedo connected me with an accounting internship, and the Vackar Student Scholar program provided valuable marketing research experience.

What advice do you have for fellow students pursuing their degrees?
Engage in your classes, explore beyond the textbooks, and stay curious. You are your biggest investment, never forget that.
