Why UTRGV?
I chose to go to UTRGV because of how close it was to home and the fact that I qualified for so many grants and scholarships that I will be graduating debt free.

What made you decide on your current major?
When I first started my college career, I was unsure of what I wanted to do, but after I took my first chemistry class, I knew I wanted to pursue a degree in chemistry. I also have a love for teaching, and through the help of the UTeach program I can obtain my degree in chemistry while getting certified to teach.

What do you hope to achieve beyond completion of your major?
After graduating with my bachelor's degree, I want to continue my education and obtain my master's in chemistry. I would like to start off my career doing research in the chemistry field, preferably in environmental science and then transition into a teaching position.

What do you like most about UTRGV?
I love how scenic the Brownsville campus is, as well as the close-knit community, and very helpful professors. I really enjoy going to class with very enthusiastic professors who prioritize our understanding of the topic and make the class personal.

What does being a Vaquero mean to you?
Being a UTRGV Vaquero means taking pride in what I do both on campus and off. It means taking an active role in my school community. I especially take pride in watching my fellow peers walk across the stage and graduate.

What opportunities has UTRGV helped you find throughout your community?
Attending UTRGV has helped me with multiple volunteering events such as being a judge in different science fairs. It has allowed me to have a work study job and through work study I was able to prioritize my studies.

What advice do you have for fellow students pursuing their degrees?
I highly recommend prioritizing your studies, getting an adequate amount sleep, do not stress too much over the little things, and take time to take a breather.
