Why UTRGV?
I chose UTRGV to embrace a vibrant new environment, and I'm grateful for the substantial financial aid and scholarships that have made my journey possible. This university is not only affordable and supportive but also fosters a strong sense of community. Graduating debt-free makes me proud to be part of such a welcoming and enriching place.

What made you decide on your current major?
Discovering my passion for accounting in high school ignited a journey where numbers became my tools for storytelling. With each calculation, I unravel the narrative behind the data, turning complexity into clarity.

What do you hope to achieve beyond completion of your major?
I plan to pursue a master’s degree in accounting and become CPA certified. My goal is to contribute to my community through the firm I work with, engaging in initiatives that foster growth and development. I aspire to support first-generation students and create more opportunities for involvement in campus events. I'm committed to giving back and continuing the work I've begun with my student organization, carrying forward our mission of achieving sustainable economic growth through strong partnerships.

What do you like most about UTRGV?
I was honored to receive the "Excellence Award" this year, recognizing my leadership qualities. I'm incredibly grateful to my mentors, Maria Leonard and Jorge Vidal, for their invaluable guidance. They equipped me with the tools to confidently seize opportunities. Their support taught me the importance of perseverance and humility. My professors fostered a community that values openness and constructive feedback, allowing me to flourish. This journey reinforced my belief that with hard work and the right support, we can achieve our goals while lifting others along the way.

What does being a Vaquero mean to you?
Being a Vaquero means embracing service and community engagement. Through involvement with organizations like Enactus, I've had countless opportunities to give back and make a difference. My experiences have shaped me into a more compassionate and responsible individual, reinforcing my dedication to creating a positive impact in our community.

What opportunities has UTRGV helped you find throughout your community?
As a first-generation student, I've seized invaluable opportunities through Enactus. Starting as a member, I became Co-Treasurer and eventually President, leading our team to become National Champions and representing the U.S. at the Enactus World Cup in Kazakhstan. We also received the award for the most outstanding student organization for the academic year 2023-2024. Our SOAR project empowers individuals on the autism spectrum with mentorship and skill-building opportunities. Our dedication to equality was recognized with Governor Abbott's Lex Frieden Employment Award. Through our CANSGIVING project, we fed over 1,000 families annually. As a Fall 2024 Archer Fellow in Washington, D.C., I'm interning with the House of Representatives Chief Administrative Officer within their Business Unit. This program has sharpened my understanding of U.S. policy and governance. I also became a Gilman Scholar, experiencing Panama through a course focused on sustainability in emerging economies. I was selected for the UTIMCO Scholars summer program, engaging in professional development, investing, and asset management. Internships with KPMG, Fortress Investment Group, Kemper Insurance, and receiving the TXCPA Education Foundation Scholarship have profoundly shaped my journey.

What advice do you have for fellow students pursuing their degrees?
Embrace every opportunity, especially those that push you out of your comfort zone. Growth happens when you're comfortable being uncomfortable. Stay curious, keep asking questions, and never stop seeking knowledge. These experiences will shape your education and prepare you for future challenges. Remember, the greatest learning often comes from the boldest steps.
