Why UTRGV?
I was drawn to UTRGV’s excellent academic programs. The university provides students with a well-rounded education that prepares them for success in the real world. Aside from this, UTRGV has a vibrant campus culture and a diverse student body. The university is committed to creating a welcoming environment and is inclusive for all students. This was particularly important to me as I wanted to attend a university where I would feel supported as a first-generation student navigating through college.

What made you decide on your current major?
In my senior year of high school, I had the opportunity to take an introductory accounting course. To my surprise, I found myself captivated by the subject and the way it is virtually in every aspect of business and finance. I was struck by the vital role that accounting plays in helping decision-makers make informed choices based on accurate financial information. This experience ignited a passion for accounting within me that has persisted to this day, and I am eager to explore this field further as I continue my academic and professional journey.

What do you hope to achieve beyond completion of your major?
I hope to serve as a role model to my younger siblings as I am the first in my family to graduate from a university. After graduation, I plan to enter the public accounting sector, where I can apply my knowledge and skills to help companies thrive. In the near future, I plan to sit for the Certified Public Accountant exam, which will allow me to become a licensed CPA and advance my career even further.

What do you like most about UTRGV?
What I like most about UTRGV is its vast opportunities it has to offer to the Rio Grande Valley community. From professional and academic events, student employment, and internships, there is truly something for everyone. The resources UTRGV invests in to prepare students for the real world demonstrates its commitment in fostering that vital transition from student to professional, ensuring students are well-equipped for success.

What does being a Vaquero mean to you?
Being a Vaquero means showing pride in being part of a community that values inclusivity and diversity. UTRGV's commitment to creating a welcoming environment for all students is reflected in the many initiatives and programs that are offered.

What opportunities has UTRGV helped you find throughout your community?
UTRGV has provided me wonderful opportunities to meet incredible people who have made a lasting impact on my life. One organization that has been particularly meaningful to mean has been the Association of Latino Professionals for America (ALPFA) UTRGV Chapter. As the membership director and current vice-president external, I have been honored to work alongside passionate individuals who share my dedication to making a difference in the community. Our collaborative efforts with other student organizations have included initiatives such as the financial literacy program, which has helped to raise awareness on the importance of financial education. I am grateful to UTRGV for providing me with the platform to participate in such impactful organizations, which have been instrumental in my personal and professional development.
