Family-Centered Pedagogy Model

The Family-Centered Theory of Change Model aims to transform existing undergraduate STEM courses in mathematics, physics, and chemistry that are taken by all students as part of the General Education requirement. The proposed project implements family-centered pedagogy that places students and families from the community at the center of the learning process. Another component is a CESL 1101 course designed for STEM students to engage with the local community in culturally-relevant curriculum and service learning incorporating Mexican American Studies pedagogies. AVE Frontera family leaders collaborate with students and faculty in professional development workshops and in-classroom instruction to increase participation of Hispanic/Latinx and other underrepresented communities in STEM education.
