About FIESTA

Family Integrated Education: Serving and Transforming Academia (FIESTA) is a Hispanic Serving Institution (HSI) research project funded by the National Science Foundation that brings transformative changes in curriculum, pedagogy in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) courses, and incorporates a family-centered approach. STEM students also take a 1 credit hour Mexican American Studies (CESL-MAS) course to make critical connections between their major, community and families. By placing students and families from the community at the center of this model, the proposed project aims to dismantle deficit thinking systems, policy and practices that continue to marginalize Latinx students from STEM fields.
