Why UTRGV?
UTRGV was definitively a blessing in disguise. I was not expecting my acceptance in to the UTRGV Nursing Program, but as soon as I received the news I knew it was in fact serendipity. I am proud to carry its name in the legacy of my education.

What made you decide on your current major?

Nursing is more than just a career, its a lifestyle. Nursing requires a special breed of people who embody the rare combination of extreme tough and tender loving care. I truly believe that the best nurses are the ones who were born to become them. Some people are just wired with the natural instinct to take care of others and I like to think that I am one of those people.

What do you like most about UTRGV?
What I value the most from UTRGV is the experience and opportunities it has granted me. There is no way I could have gained the amount of knowledge and clinical background if I had opted to attend another college or university. I was selected to participate in several opportunities from the nursing graduate program while still being part of the undergraduate nursing cohort. I was inducted in several honor societies, recognized as a distinguished leader among my peers and a strong nursing candidate.

What are some of your favorite study spots on campus?
My favorite spot in the Edinburg campus is the green area by the chapel. There is something about the small lake and its green life that easily guides me into a peaceful state. Sometimes I just need to take a small break in the midst of my busy life and I am able to catch my breath there.

What does being a Vaquero mean to you?
I truly felt like I belonged to the Vaquero family during Homecoming week, specially the closing event of the burning of the letters. I was able to grasp the concept of camaraderie among the student body, and maintained school pride and alliance among my peers, allowing me to feel the Vaquero pride spirit.

What opportunities has UTRGV helped you find throughout your community?
One of the greatest opportunities I had was working with the P-16 Outreach Department. They closely work with the community promoting higher education through their different initiatives. Their work impacts a vast spectrum - from teens to college students - alongside their families. That inclusion eventually transforms communities through the power of education.

What are a few of your favorite books?
“The Alchemist” by Paulo Coelho - The premise regards finding one’s own destiny. "When you really want something to happen, the whole universe will conspire so that your wish comes true.”

“One Hundred Years of Solitude” by Gabriel Garcia Marquez - I love how there is a dominant idea of the inevitable and inescapable repetition of history.

What’s in your playlist right now?
Varies from different genres, but I personally love anything with Latin beat, jazz or blues infusions.
