Adak National Park

Adak is a small city in Adak Island. Adak Island is part of the Andreanof Islands group which makes up the Aleutian Islands. It has a population of 326 people. The typical climate in Adak can be described as overcast skies, high winds and lots of rain throughout the year. It rains 263 days out of the whole year and is in fact the second place in the US that receives so much rain. Because of the climate, no trees actually grow here only in a small area called Elfin Forest which contains about 33 trees. Although a small number of people reside there, Adak has a large area of nature surrounding it worth exploring. Adak has migrant birds from Asia visit the Island and is home to Bald Eagles. While there is some trails to hike, they aren’t all well developed and camping is discouraged due to the weather. All these factors inspired my project and is the place I chose to focus on.

My project is Adak National Park. It is a concept for a national park located in Adak, Alaska. I chose the area near Mt. Adagdak which in the map seemed empty to base my concept in. The Adak in my project would have the perfect conditions to offer a great experience for any outdoor loving enthusiast. Hiking, camping and sightseeing are just some of the many activities’ visitors could engage in. I brought Adak National Park to life through an illustrative map brochure, designed an app specific to the park as well as a promotional poster. Although Adak is mainly a technology free experience, the app allows users to have more information on hiking trails, lodging information and a map to see the location.
