Artist Statement
Art and its forms of expression have been an integral part of my family history – my grandfather was a photographer and my grandmother an artisan. So, from a young age I’ve had a fondness for the artistic language. Later, my fondness developed into a profound interest when I worked for a nonprofit organization dedicated to educating and assisting low-income children living in high-risk neighborhoods in Puerto Rico. The goal of this organization was to use art as a medium to give these children the tools for a better future. I worked as a photography instructor; this is where I began to discover my desire to use art to help people and decided to pursue a degree in Communication Design. Personally, what is important to me about my works is that each one portrays a positive message for people to see. My hope is that people will see my work and leave with having learned something new, either about themselves, the artwork, or the culture represented by my art.
