Artist Statement
Hello, my name is Kristopher Rodriguez and graphic design is my passion (this is a reference to a meme btw lol.) Like all other designers I hope that my photography, design work, and other skills get me to where I want to be - either producing movies or creating games.
When I was in elementary school, my mother owned a daycare center. I would always go straight there right after school was let out, and she would help me with my homework and just let me play around while she was working. But every now and then, she would teach me how to draw horses, and that sparked my creative interest making me who I am today. I am grateful for both of my parents for always pushing me to trying harder than my best. Fast forward to now, my amazing boyfriend has helped me grow as a person immensly. If it weren’t for him, I don’t think I would be creating the same as I am today. He and my parents have given me the strength to keep pursuing graphic design as my main job. It may still be hard, but there is always light at the end of the tunnel.
My work mostly revolves around how our everyday life affects the world around us in a negative way, and action should be taken to counteract these issues. We as humans, don’t really think about how drastically our lives affect wildlife. Our plastic consumption, carbon footprint, pollution are just some issues of many that are killing the world as we know it. I like to showcase these problems in my work either head on, or subtly. This type of design excites me because of how I can affect others - even in the slightest - to see that all of our actions will have consequences. I also like to show that hard work always pays off
I work by sketching rough ideas out, then researching key words or images that could help my design come together faster. I don’t stop with one design; I will create several designs, get input from others, and narrow it down to the one that conveys the message I want. This is also a good and bad thing for me, I will keep on creating many different ideas that it just takes me to long to complete a project sometimes. But most other times, this is an advantage for me since I’ll be able to show clientel various options for them to choose from.
