My exhibit idea was to create something that allows for the freedom of expression in clothing. Clothing is often used as an extension of ourselves to express our favorite styles, colors and cuts that flatter not only our bodies but also our personalities. Yet, it often seems like this expression is particularly dulled down in workplace environments. Creativity and confidence are qualities that are always valued in workplaces – so why should we not be able to wear something that makes us feel both?

This exhibit was born of my own passions: branding and button-down shirts. I made pieces that represent my fictional brand UNIKO, a custom-clothing company that specializes in work-wear cuts and styles. The name UNIKO is derived from the work “unico” meaning unique in Spanish, and it’s mascot/icon is inspired by the weaver-bird which is known to weave beautiful nests out of plant material. UNIKO as a brand represents creativity and the freedom to be truly unique like everything on our planet.
