Artist Statement

My name is Ayleen Alanis and I enjoy being around friends and family that support what I do in the design field. Photography is a must in whatever I do as a way to express different perspectives the eye can’t see. I enjoy black and white a lot along with minimalistic designs followed by nature and cloudy days!

Some of my family members are artists and focus their work on painting, industrial design, architecture, engineering. Eventually I ended up being inspired to take on the lead of an artist as well. I would sketch interior design spaces and architectural drawings as well. I took art classes in middle school which inspired me to continue on that path, however, once I entered high school, I focused on other subjects instead, therefore art wasn’t my constant hobby or practice. The only subject that I took involving media, design, photography, editing by using Adobe Premiere was an advance technology class for 3 years. By the end of high school, I signed up for a design and photography class where they taught students how to use photoshop and a little bit of illustrator. Because of these classes, I preferred to study graphic design in a university. As a first generation of college in my family I wasn’t very convinced studying graphic design. I felt that I should have majored in more common things here in the Rio Grande Valley like nurse, lawyer, electrician, medical assistant, etc. In the end I am truly grateful to be a designer and photographer.
