Magan Resort
Magan Resort is an all-inclusive Palawan beachside hotel & resort located in Puerto Princesa,Philippines. Despite being an all-inclusive resort, Magan Resort offers many unique activities that separates from any ordinary resort, while embracing the rich culture of Puerto Princesa. Magan Resort practices environmental sustainability by using and selling environmentally friendly products and minimalizing environmental impact. Magan Resort also offers ecotourism activities and attractions which educates visitors on why the Philippines is known as the Pearl of the Orient. Magan Resort works with the Palawan people by collaborating with local artisans that embraces the rich and ancient cultures Puerto Princesa has to offer.
The concept of Magan Resort is a self-reflection on my love of travelling, my identity as a Filipino-American, and my origin as a Graphic Designer. The designs are inspired by the local tribal patterns of the Palawan tribes, modern luxurious resorts, and sustainable graphic design. The logo is inspired by the Ibalnan scripture, a twentieth century scripture system used by the people in Palawan that was adapted by the Baybayin scripture, a precolonial scripture system in the sixteenth century. To separate from the rest of the resorts, I have created a branding poster that does not emphasize the beach as much of the advertisements. I went for a more relatable and comedic approach where the tired painter accidentally paints over the Mona Lisa while he repaints the gallery. To establish its’ digital presence for an international audience, I have created a website mock-up poster. I went for a modern humanistic approach to appeal to adults worldwide ranging from twenty to forty years old. And finally, to illustrate the brand’s practice of sustainability, I have created a toiletry arrangement. I made and carved the logo into the soap, collaborated with my local embroidery to embroider the logo into towels, and I designed and printed the labels into a frosted glass container for the toiletries. The labels were designed in a way to be clearly seen while embracing the logo and the branding pattern.
