Amaranthine Meadows

Amaranthine Meadows is a funeral parlor that provides resources for those in mourning. The business provides assistance in matters such as the purchasing of burial plots, caskets, various funeral packages, and cremation. The goal of the business is to provide a valuable service to people who might find the whole situation overwhelming by doing most of the legwork under the guidance of the individual/families wishes, whether it’s a “Celebration of Life” event or a traditional funeral.

I chose a funeral service for this exhibit because death is a process in which we all have some experience. I chose the word “amaranthine” as it is a synonym for “peace”. The word is also derived from the word “amaranth” which refers to a specific family of flowers. Different colors and types of flowers are commonly used to express various sentiments in a funeral setting, such as grief, innocence, and love. Funerals are often portrayed as a solemn and awful occurrence rooted in a tradition that often leaves no room for the various emotions that accompany grief. I wanted to give it a lighter and more modern spin while still maintaining some of the traditional. This was done in hopes that it might be less overbearing and better promote healing in those having to plan the event while giving them a space to feel whatever feelings may come.
