Artist Statement

personal logoI started off wanting to major in communications and public relations because it seemed like it could be an exciting industry to work in, but a part of me felt like I needed something more. It was not until I had a talk with my sister about choosing a major in the arts that I changed my mind. I decided on graphic design with a minor in marketing because I could eventually seek positions at advertising agencies to promote my artistic side.

It is a career that will allow me to be fluid, to explore different solutions through typographic choices, designs, and colors. Graphic design is limitless in its possibilities. I view my art as a collection of knowledge I have acquired and a reflection of who I am. My work is important to me because it serves as a form of self-expression, I can speak through illustrations and designs. My interest in the arts started in high school and quickly evolved into something I was extremely passionate about after taking courses at The University of Texas at Rio Grande Valley. Observing the work of other students was what really engulfed me in the world of graphic design.

I hope to impact the lives of people the same way looking at the work of others has impacted mine. I wondered if I could do something like that, or even close to it. Since then, I have been educated on the basics of design and important techniques, which I have combined with my artistic creativity to make my ideas come to life. Being a Graphic Designer allows me to create and I can assure you there is not a better feeling than having an entire room on the edge of their seats before revealing your creations.
