Employee Involvement
Focuses on providing employees with a greater level of autonomy in their work as well as opportunities to be involved in organizational decision making. Examples include:
- Participative decision making
- Continuous improvement teams
- Multi-rater performance evaluation systems (e.g., P&T)
Work-life Balance
Focuses on providing employees with greater flexibility, when, where, or how often they work, as well as benefits to assist them in managing nonwork demands. Examples include:
- Faculty Friendly policies (e.g., dual career hiring, stop the tenure-clock, modified duties, etc.)
- Cohort hiring of minority faculty
- Job sharing and/or part-time Tenure positions
- Dependent care resources (e.g., on-site child care, elder care information and support, travel dependent care, care for sick dependents, etc.)
- Mental and physical health resources
Employee Growth and Development
Focuses on issues related to improving employee competencies and career development. Examples include:
- Professional development & continuing education courses
- Tuition reimbursement
- Coaching and mentoring
- Seed grant, and other additional funding
Employee Recognition
Focuses on demonstrating equitable and inclusive appreciation for employee contributions and includes both monetary and nonmonetary rewards. Examples include:
- Fair monetary compensation
- Performance-based bonuses
- Employee awards for exceptional performance
- Recognition events
- Verbal acknowledgment from managers and supervisors
- Celebration of accomplishments and major life events
- Formalized peer recognition programs
Health and Wellbeing
Focuses on prevention, assessment, and treatment of potential health risks and problems and encouraging and supporting healthy lifestyle and behavior choices. Examples include:
- Addressing issue of macro/microaggressions (e.g., sexism, racism, ablism…etc.)
- High-quality health insurance including mental health coverage
- Family-support resources
- Healthy food options in vending machines and cafeterias
- Safety and ergonomic assessments
- Onsite fitness facilities
