Welcome to the UTRGV School of Medicine Sports Medicine Fellowship at Doctors Hospital at Renaissance (DHR). I serve as the Director of Sports Medicine for the UTRGV School of Medicine, as well as the fellowship director.
The purpose of the program is to educate and train the next generation of sports physicians and develop their expertise in the area of sports medicine. We offer an excellent sports medicine fellowship program that provides fellows with a unique and rewarding experience. Our program aims to provide each sports medicine fellow with valuable experience in the management of a variety of sports medicine problems.
The UTRGV School of Medicine - Sports Medicine fellowship offers fellows one of the most comprehensive educational experiences available. Our goal is to continue to improve the quality of patient care in South Texas and to be one of the best sports fellowship programs in the country.
Thank you for your interest in the UTRGV Sports Medicine Fellowship Program at DHR. We look forward to welcoming you to our program as we continue to make history in advancing the health needs of patients and athletes in the Rio Grande Valley.

About the program
Our Sports Medicine Fellowship Program is located in South Texas along the Mexico border and is affiliated with the UTRGV School of Medicine. Our fellowship program provides medical coverage for UTRGV Athletics (NCAA Division 1, Western Athletic Conference) as well as RGV FC Toros (USL Houston Dynamo affiliate) and RGV Vipers (NBA G League Houston Rockets affiliate). We also provide high school football coverage for several area school districts.
UTRGV Sports Medicine Fellows see patients in the Department of Family Medicine Sports Medicine clinics, UTRGV athletic training rooms, academic orthopedic surgery clinics, and private orthopedic clinics. In these clinics, fellows are responsible for evaluating patients and developing treatment plans for patients ranging from pediatric to geriatric age who present with musculoskeletal and sports-related conditions and injuries.
