A Valley native of Weslaco, TX, Dr. Michael Sander, an Orthopedic surgeon at UT Health RGV, has practiced and served the Rio Grande Valley community since 2006.
Dr. Sander believes in and is committed to the mission and vision of the UTRGV School of Medicine to transform the health of the Rio Grande Valley and beyond and is passionate about its essential role for patients in the region.
Upon graduating from the University of Texas at Austin, Dr. Sander received his medical degree with honors from Baylor College of Medicine in Houston. He then attended the University of Iowa Department of Orthopedics and Rehabilitation for his Orthopedic Surgery Residency and completed his Orthopedic Sports Fellowship at the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio.
He is a fellow of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons and the American Orthopedic Association and is board-certified by the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery.
Dr. Sander joined The UTRGV School of Medicine faculty in 2018 and currently serves as the chair of the Department of Surgical Specialty and Musculoskeletal Health (MSK) and leads UT Health RGV as its chief physician executive.
As a Valley native, Dr. Sander has proudly spent the past five years at the UTRGV School of Medicine and UT Health RGV, educating and training the next generation of physician leaders in medicine, research, and patient care.
