Society of Physics Students (SPS)
The Society of Physics Students at UTRGV participated several outreach events, among which a visit to Rivera Early College High School in May 2023, which was facilitated by our former SPS secretary Ana Mena, and SPS President Victoria Delgado.
Another exciting event was hosted in Gladys Porter High School in Brownsville (College and Career Fair), where SPS participated with members Sara Sharifi, Oscar Arteaga and new President of SPS Armando Villareal. The event was so successful that instead of planned 45 minutes we stayed there almost 2 hours, demonstrating our new Optical Ray System and the gyroscope with rotating chair.
On October 14, 2023, SPS participated to the Solar Eclipse viewing event at Southmost branch of Brownsville Public Library, where our SPS members Juanangel Montenayor, Oscar Arteaga and Armando Villareal demonstrated Optical Ray System, Spectroscopes and gyroscope to the public.
Our next SPS events with demonstrations were held on November 8th at Dora Romero Elementary with the help of SPS members Richard Pomeroy and Moises Castillo, who skillfully explained the Physics behind the demonstrations to children and their parents. Another event was organized with Horizon Montessori Public Schools for K-12 science students, a STEM Fair on December 6, 2023, at the UTRGV Edinburg campus. SPS members Emmalucia Elizondo and Clemente Garcia helped to showcase the Van de Graaf generator and the optical fiber system with the laser.
SPS is open to all undergraduate and post-baccalaureate students enrolled in The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley, who have an interest in Physics. All students who enroll in Physics courses are eligible to become members of UTRGV SPS and participate in organization meetings, seminars, and program activities.
