The Magdalena Diner

For my exhibit, I decided to create my own 24 hour diner named “the Magdalena”. The Magdalena Diner is a 24 hour diner that was designed for the people who are constantly on the lookout for “their spot”, along with a diverse menu. A large element of inspiration for this project came from the fact that my younger sister follows a vegan lifestyle. As a family with a diverse diet, we tend to struggle to find a place where we can eat as a family without worrying if they have something for my sister on the menu. We don’t necessarily have a place like that in the RGV that isn’t a franchise such as IHOP or Denny’s and it was my goal to design the concept of one - friendly and family owned.

The goal in the design process for the entirety of this project, was to add a modern touch to the traditional diner style. Modernizing the look and of the smaller elements that contribute to the overall aura of the diner was done to attract the right crowd and encourage people to come share a meal at the Magdalena. The earthy/neutral tones used in the design of the logo, poster and packaging design are meant to provide a calming effect, as that’s the environment we wish to portray. The earth tones were also chosen to accentuate the fact that the diner will offer vegan/vegetarian options for every meal that’s on our menu and work with sustainable packaging.
