Artist Statement
Hi, my name is Marycarmen Galván, one of the things that made me choose graphic design as my career was that I really enjoy drawing and painting as a hobby. Going into college, I realized that I could use my imagination to make new things, and I decided to bring my creativity into the computer.
When I was in high school I developed a tremendous taste for drawing, I actually loved to draw on my free time, it became my hobby, but who knew that this would become my passion. When I finish high school, I needed to decide what to study, and I wanted to do something that involves drawing, and painting, I decided to study graphic design not knowing this would be more than a simple drawing. Through this five years studying this career I realized how wrong I was, graphic design is more than just drawing, it involves passion, creativity, and more than everything love to what’s new. I became a person who’s work involved the creation of elegance, and a unique style, I really want to show the world my style in every work I do. I work from drawings, paintings, typography, photography to stationary, personalized items. One contemporaneous graphic designer that catch my eye was Paul Brand because of his style, he tried to do it as simple as possible but in the way that this would get your attention, and this is what I want to do in the future when I get to have my own business of graphic design.
The first thing that I do when I start my work, is asking the client what is her idea, her business name, then we need to set the audience, after that, we start brainstorming together on what she wants. She gives me the top 3 colors, fonts that she prefers, and I make sketches, after that, she decides on one, and from that sketch I’ll make 3 different logo designs, from those she would choose one and she can change it just two times. And that is the final result.
