Ordunation Chronicles

Greetings, I am Jonas Michel Orduña-Castillo, and my senior exhibit is the result of honing the art style that I have dubbed as “Tejanime” based on my past observation and passion for anime since childhood. Contrary to most high school graduates and seniors yet to graduate from college, I am one of those with a dream. My dream is to become an anime creator by writing the original series to be adapted and to create a production company with similar-minded individuals with their own original ideas, their skills and their teamwork. While my art, both digital and hand drawn, isn’t typical for traditional graphic designers that work on designing book covers, calendars, posters etc., but they are the results and progress of an illustrator aiming to be a part of the entertainment industry through the greatest power I have, the infinite ability of storytelling. Although I am diagnosed with high-functioning Autism and the drawback it has on my emotions, it is through my autism that I am more sociable and more determined to make my ambitions into a reality. There were times where I felt overwhelmed, I put too much pressure in myself, doubting my abilities too often, I almost felt like quitting and that I never belonged anywhere. However, those feelings and negativity are temporary and like nightmares, they never last.

One of the goals I have in life is that when I do start a company that creates products of not only light novels and manga, but anime series as well, whether I hire animators from the U.S. or outsourcing those services from Japan, China or South Korea,I want to make sure that we have the weekends to ourselves, so that we could be rejuvenated and reigniting the passion of producing anime episodes and to keep the love of our professions that we have chosen so that we can never be regretful of our choices. My exhibit will have my latest works that are not only a part of my Graphic Design Senior Exhibit, but they are the first set of works for my original series; Warrior Age. One of my instructors taught me, anime isn’t one man work, but a team effort. I want to do the work that creates the story, but I also want to share the credit and effort with others because I believe in teamwork and I like connecting with others, not just to bond with others, I like talented people as well.
