Juneteenth

Juneteenth, also known as Freedom Day, Jubilee Day, or Emancipation Day, marks the day in 1865 when Union General Gordon Granger arrived in Galveston, Texas, to announce the end of slavery, nearly two and a half years after the Emancipation Proclamation was signed. While Juneteenth (June 19) has been celebrated in Texas since then, it only became a federal holiday in 2021.

Celebrating Juneteenth is a chance to remember and a call to action. It is a reminder that we must continue promoting equality, justice, and respect for all individuals, regardless of their background or ethnicity.
