A student may give parents, legal guardians, or other trusted parties access to view certain parts of their student record online. This access is referred to as proxy access, and the person who is granted this authorization is called a proxy. The student controls the entire process through their ASSIST account and can add anyone with a valid e-mail address as a proxy.

Note: When a student grants proxy access, the student will also be disclosing their student identification number and other FERPA-protected information to the proxy.

Student FAQ's

Who can I grant proxy access to?

Students may grant proxy access to anyone they deem appropriate: parents, guardians, spouses, etc… The individual granted access must have an e-mail account.

What type of access can I grant to a proxy?

Students can grant view-only access to the following pages (view-only access means a proxy cannot edit or change student information):

  • Student Profile
  • Student Grades
  • Week at Glance
  • Financial Aid Status
  • Student Holds
  • Financial Aid Satisfactory Requirements
  • Financial Aid Dashboard
  • Financial Aid Award Offer
  • Financial Aid Notifications
  • Financial Aid Resources
  • College Financing Plan

Can the same e-mail address be assigned to a proxy for multiple students?

Yes. Proxies are identified by e-mail address, and multiple students can assign that same e-mail address to a proxy. This is particularly useful in the case of siblings who each attend UTRGV and would like to grant proxy access to the same parent. Each student can still choose which specific information they would like to authorize even if the students share the same proxy.

What can I do when I no longer want a proxy to have access to my record?

A student can remove access for a proxy at any time. Please review our student guides for additional information.

Can I update the pages that a proxy has access to?

Yes. Students can update which pages their proxy has access to at any time by returning to the Proxy Management page in ASSIST. Click on the Edit icon under the proxy’s name to make any adjustments.

Does Proxy Access replace the need for FERPA releases?

No. Granting Proxy Access to an individual does not allow that individual to discuss a student’s record with faculty, staff or advisors at UTRGV.  Students are able to complete a FERPA release form if they wish to allow university personnel to discuss and/or release non-directory information pertaining to the student’s educational record.

What if the information I want/need is not visible to me?

If the information you want to view is included in the list of pages that are eligible for allowed access, you may contact your student and ask for authorizations to be updated. Some information such as exam and quiz grades are not available through Proxy Access.

Who can be granted Proxy Access?

How long does my proxy access last?

By default, access is granted for one year starting from the date that the student initially grants access.  However, students have full control over the period of proxy access and can adjust this time frame or remove access completely at any time. UTRGV faculty and staff will not discuss when or if a student has revoked proxy access.

I forgot my password. What can I do?
