SEEMS is proud to offer three Bachelor's degree programs in Environmental Sciences, Marine Biology, and Sustainable Agriculture and Food Systems. There are also three available undergraduate minor opportunities in these departments as well.

DEGREE PROGRAMS
The multidisciplinary Bachelor of Science degree in Environmental Science prepares graduates for careers at local, state and federal government agencies, non-profit organizations, and environmental consulting firms. Additionally, graduates of this program are prepared to continue on to graduate studies in order to pursue research and scholarship opportunities. The program core focuses on key environmental issues while the restricted electives allow the students to choose to focus on areas of interest to the individual student. |
The School of Earth, Environmental, and Marine Sciences offers a B.S. in Marine Biology, which is designed to prepare students who are seeking a career or graduate studies in marine biology and related marine science disciplines. Undergraduates in this major will develop an understanding of the biology of marine organisms and the biological and physical processes that affect these organisms, their populations, and their coastal and oceanic ecosystems by taking full advantage of the Rio Grande Valley’s unique physical location. |
The multidisciplinary Bachelor of Science degree in Sustainable Agriculture and Food Systems (SAFS) serves students interested in improving the sustainability of modern food and agricultural systems. This major prepares graduates to understand the interdisciplinary and systems-based aspects of sustainability and provides them with the knowledge, leadership skills, and experiences required to excel in agricultural and food systems professions. Students also prepare for graduate studies in a wide range of fields related to agriculture, food, water, and energy systems. |
A minor in Environmental Science, Geographic Information Systems, and Geology and Earth Science prepares graduates for careers at local, state, and federal agencies, non-profit organizations, and environmental consulting firms. STUDENT OPPORTUNITIES
UTEACH
UTEACH is the secondary teacher preparation program for preparing highly qualified science and mathematics teachers according to the UTEACH model.
TRESS
TRESS offers state-of-the-art soil science courses as well as experiential learning activities, and channels students to careers related to soil science.
CCME
NOAA CCME's (Center for Coastal and Marine Ecosystems) goal is to educate and train a new generation of scientists in NOAA-relevant STEM disciplines and social sciences.
SHIP-GEO
SHIP-GEO contributes to diversifying and reducing the predicted shortage in the US geoscience workforce through student awareness, recruitment & retention.
CSL
The Coastal Studies Laboratory is dedicated to enhancing research and engaging in public service, education, and outreach related to coastal and marine concerns.
SARA
The purpose of the UTRGV Center for Sustainable Agriculture and Rural Advancement is to improve agricultural sustainability and advance rural communities.
Agroecology
The UTRGV Agroecology program combines student-centered research, education, and community engagement to address locally relevant issues that affect agroecosystems.
LRGV Network
The Lower Rio Grande Valley Sustainability Network develops successful sustainable approaches through a diverse array of entities to effectively address issues.
