Travel Resources and Investments Program (T.R.I.P.)
Travel Resources and Investments Program (TRIP) is designed to assist faculty with travel needs that align with the university's strategic research priorities. This funding opportunity aims to foster collaboration, support the development of competitive grant proposals, and enhance doctoral program recruitment. TRIP Funding is available for domestic travel related to the following strategic priorities:
1. Grant Development Travel

- Purpose: This funding is intended to support faculty who are seeking to develop proposals for active or upcoming grant opportunities with submission deadlines before August 31, 2026. Faculty are encouraged to travel for in-person collaboration meetings that are essential for crafting competitive proposals, strengthening research partnerships, and aligning projects with funding agency priorities.
- Eligible Travel: Domestic travel related to grant development efforts, including travel to meet with potential collaborators, attend site visits, or engage with stakeholders critical to proposal success. This initiative does not include generic travel for networking purposes, such as attending conferences.

- Purpose: This funding opportunity is designed for faculty involved in recruiting doctoral students to their programs. In-person meetings play a critical role in recruitment efforts, allowing faculty to personally engage with prospective students, discuss program strengths, and foster connections.
- Eligible Travel: Domestic travel that facilitates recruitment activities, including university visits, recruitment fairs, and direct outreach to potential candidates in areas of high interest. Applications will be evaluated in collaboration with the Graduate College and the Office of Graduate Recruitment and Outreach in the Division of Strategic Enrollment and Student Affairs.
Eligibility
- Faculty members in good standing who are affiliated with the university’s doctoral programs or are actively pursuing research funding through grant proposals.
- Travel must align with one of the two designated priorities: Grant Development or Doctoral Student Recruitment.
- Eligible activities include domestic travel for collaboration, recruitment, or proposal development.
Application Process
- Applications must be submitted via the link, including a brief proposal outlining the purpose of the trip, expected outcomes, and how the travel aligns with the strategic priorities. Guidelines document is available here.
- Faculty will be asked to provide an estimated travel budget, including transportation, accommodation, and per diem expenses.
- Priority will be given to trips that demonstrate the greatest potential impact on the faculty member's ability to secure funding or attract doctoral candidates.
Reporting and Accountability
Within 30 days of completion of travel:
- Faculty are required to submit a brief report detailing the outcomes of the trip, including a timeline for proposal submission or recruitment success.
- A final budget reconciliation must also be provided to ensure all expenses are aligned with the approved budget.
Funding and Deadlines
- There are no specific deadlines for TRIP funding. Applications will be considered and reviewed on a first-come, first-served basis, subject to the availability of funds. Please note that TRIP funding is limited, and applications will be processed until the funds are exhausted.
