Why UTRGV?
Being an international student, I feel connected with UTRGV because of the strong multicultural climate. I feel a closeness with the large Hispanic population – I see the influence of family dynamics and how everyone handles situations with honor and dignity. I also appreciate the practice of equality and equity at the administration level. And last but not least, the mission of UTRGV is inseparable from my mission for pursuing higher study: developing new understanding through research,  moral and spiritual growth, sustainable development and creativity.

What made you decide on your current major?
I used to practice counseling in different settings such as hospitals, agencies, clinics and so on. I worked with children, adolescents, adults and the geriatric population who had mild, moderate and severe mental health issues. However, I had some clients who had physical disabilities besides mental health issues. No matter how hard I tried to assist those clients for their mental health issues, they relapsed due to their physical disabilities. I realized the mind and body affect each other. From this core realization, I decided to pursue a doctoral degree in Rehabilitation Counseling in order to assist my clients holistically.

What do you hope to achieve beyond completion of your major?
I hope to be a person who displays honesty, integrity and hard work.

What do you like most about UTRGV?
The student friendly environment, the highly qualified faculty and their incredible support, and lots of resources to learn, grow and develop.

What does being a Vaquero mean to you?
Live, learn, love and leave a legacy.

What opportunities has UTRGV helped you find throughout your community?
There are lots of opportunities UTRGV has helped me find to serve the community such as participating in student organizations, an internship at the UTRGV Counseling Center, etc. To top it all off, I am blessed with a passion for developing leadership skills.

What advice do you have for fellow students pursuing their degrees?
Love UTRGV truly, madly and deeply.
