Description:
The Immersive English Program is designed for non-native English speakers who want to learn American English over the summer and in a university setting. Focusing on an Immersive approach in conversation, grammar, and vocabulary-building activities, this course will help participants develop their skills, fluency, and confidence to communicate more effectively. Participants take classes three times a week for four hours over the course of a month with experienced, dynamic, and professional instructors. The program is available for participants 15 years or older. This course will be offered online and will involve grades such as quizzes and tests, and attendance will be taken. Participants will be required to have their cameras on during the session.
New LI participants must take a placement test for this program.
* Until further notice, due to COVID-19 restrictions, in-class courses will be primarily offered online via Zoom, Microsoft Teams, or Blackboard. However, we will allow up to 9 participants in the classroom on a first-come, first-served basis. If you wish to secure your in-person seat, please email li@utrgv.edu as soon as you complete the registration for the course.
Program Details:
The participant will be able to:
- Communicate more confidently and fluently via group activities such as roleplays and discussions
- Improve the understanding of certain grammar concepts via engaging lessons.
- Improve the understanding of certain vocabulary or phrases via various group activities or lessons.
Grade Report
- At the end of the session, LI sends all participants a Student Grade Report (SGR) for their performance.
- At the end of the session, participants who successfully complete the requirements will receive a Certificate of Participation.
Application and Payments
- Program Requirements
- Submit application electronically.
- Process placement test payment registration. (non-refundable)
- Participants must be 15 years or older..
- US Citizens or Resident Aliens should bring their birth certificate, resident alien card, or employment authorization letter.
- Transfers to another session are Not Allowed without prior approval.
- We require a written request emailed to li@utrgv.edu at least 3 business days prior to the start date of the course to get the registration fee refunded in full. Partial refunds are not available.
- It takes 5-7 business days to process refunds for credit/debit card payments.
- All new participants under the age of 22 must submit evidence of receiving the meningitis vaccine or booster shot (administered within the past five years) or evidence of exemption before they can enroll. Participants must provide proof of vaccination 10 days before the first day of the program.
