Implementation Team

Numerous campus representatives were involved in the LMS Evaluation and Selection of the LMS. Other groups/teams are being charged to help with the comprehensive transition and implementation of UTRGV LMS moving from Blackboard to Brightspace.

In an effort to ensure we get input and feedback from a wide range of stakeholders in the implementation process, UTRGV has convened an LMS Implementation Advisory Group to help us as we transition out of Blackboard and into Brightspace. The group is composed of faculty (representatives from each college, as well as Faculty Senate), students, and staff (COLTT, IT, Information Security, Marketing, Assessment, etc.). Members of the implementation advisory group are responsible for sharing updates and information with their constituents and soliciting input and feedback from them to bring back to the implementation team.

A group of faculty members have been appointed by different deans to pilot Brightspace during the Spring 2025 Semester and Spring Module I. Such faculty continue to be prepared during the Fall 2024 Semester. Faculty will support the transition and be Brightspace Champions for the different departments.

D2L's Brightspace has been chosen as the university's next Learning Management System (LMS) after a comprehensive consultation activity with students, faculty, and staff. The steps included input from the campus community during the competitive procurement selection process regarding the candidates contesting for the opportunity to be the University's next LMS during the presentations of their products to the evaluation committee in early Spring 2024.
