What instrument do you play? Clarinet

How does it feel to be part of the inaugural marching band at UTRGV?

It feels amazing knowing that we are the first ever marching band at UTRGV, being able to represent the Valley and show them what we have been working hard on!

What drove you to try out for UTRGV Marching Band?

I always loved the idea of marching and playing music on the field, I never wanted it to end. So, when I heard about this amazing opportunity, I knew I had to take it and continue doing what I love most.

What does being a part of this band mean to you?
It means a lot knowing that I can help set an example for the future and welcome the first ever marching band.

Why did you choose to play your instrument?
I chose to play clarinet back in 6th grade because I fell in love with the way it sounded when my instructor played it for us once. It has been eight years since I've been playing, and I will never get tired of it.

What are you most looking forward to while performing in the band?
I'm most excited to be able to compete at college-level competitions and hear how loud the crowd will cheer for us.

What is something about marching band that most people may not know?
Fun fact is that we use personalized poker chips that are placed on the field during rehearsals to help us memorize our marching sets faster!

What advice do you have for fellow band students pursuing their degrees?

I really hope everyone can push their way through to their career and get where they want to be. Everyone is an amazing leader and will one day help guide others to success.

What do you hope to achieve after graduating from UTRGV?

I hope to become a trauma surgeon and move to Los Angeles, CA where I will be able to start my journey. In my free time, I would like to be a part of a clarinet symphony to continue what I loved since 2016.
