Description:
The Survival Spanish course is designed for adult learners with little or no previous knowledge of Spanish who want to learn or improve their speaking, listening, and comprehension skills to survive in a Spanish speaking environment. Participants can take classes two days a week in the evenings.
* Until further notice, due to COVID-19 restrictions, in-class courses will be primarily offered online via Zoom, Microsoft Teams, or Blackboard. However, we will allow up to 9 participants in the classroom on a first-come, first-served basis. If you wish to secure your in-person seat, please email li@utrgv.edu as soon as you complete the registration for the course.

APPLICATION AND PAYMENT
- Complete your program registration at least one week before classes begin.
ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS
- Participants must be 18 years or older and have completed high school or equivalent.
SESSION TRANSFERS
- Transfers to another session are Not Allowed without prior approval.
REFUNDS
- We require a written request emailed to li@utrgv.edu at least 3 business days prior to the start date of the course to get the registration fee refunded in full. Partial refunds are not available.
- It takes 5-7 business days to process refunds for credit/debit card payments.
The following are examples of what can be covered:
- Communication Expressions: Talking about classmates, buildings, family, everyday activities, and making plans.
- Key Vocabulary & Pronunciation: Cognates, countries, nationalities, colors, numbers, family, and days of the week.
- Grammar: The Spanish alphabet, definite and indefinite articles, gender, agreement of nouns and adjectives, and present tense of regular -ar, -er, -ir verbs, and stem changing verbs.
- Listening: Alphabet, numbers, conversations, stories, and interviews.
- Grade Report
- At the end of each term, LI sends all participants a final evaluation of their performance in the program.
- Certificates
- At the end of each session, participants who successfully complete the requirements of the LI receive a Certificate of Participation.
