Myung Hwangbo

Mentor since: 2024

Field of expertise: Microbial activity on biogeochemical cycling, Microbial community analysis, Water quality, Microbial indicators, Bioremediation, Biodegradation

Short Biography:

Myung Hwangbo is an assistant professor of practice at School of Earth, Environmental, and Marine Sciences at UTRGV. As an environmental engineer and scientist, her research focuses on microbial responses to the climate change and environmental pollution. In particular, she is focusing on the analysis of microbial communities using bioinformatics and their activity after exposure to contaminants or environmental changes.  She is currently also doing water quality monitoring using microbial indicators and understanding of microbial roles in biogeochemical carbon and nutrient cycling in the ecosystem for environmental management. These are novel research to combine engineering and scientific areas to understand the impact of environmental changes and overcome environmental challenges.
