Short Biography:

Dr. Madhurababu Kunta is a Research Associate Professor at Texas A&M University-Kingsville and works at the Citrus Center, Weslaco, TX. He is also as an adjunct graduate faculty, Plant–Associated Microorganisms / Plant Health (Horticulture, MEPS) in the Department of Horticulture, Texas A&M University, College Station. He teaches graduate level course, Practical Applications of Plant Biotechnology.  He also manages a state of the art USDA-certified diagnostics laboratory housed at the Citrus Center.  Kunta’s research interests include plant pathology, pathogen identification and diagnostics, biotechnology, and disease management. He has published 53 peer-reviewed papers, 4 book chapters, and gave over 100 presentations at international and domestic scientific meetings. He has served on 39 graduate student committees (34 graduated with Master’s and 1 graduated with PhD degree) out of which he was a chair/co-chair on 15 graduate student thesis committees. He is the Managing Editor for Subtropical Agriculture and Environments journal and an Editor for journals aBiotech, Journal of Plant Disease Sciences, and Plants. He has served as the President and currently serves as a Treasurer of the Subtropical Agriculture and Environments Society. Dr. Kunta has secured 35 funded grants culminating in awards totaling more than $32 million, with over $4 million allocated to his research program.
