Dr. Alejandro Fierro-Cabo

Mentor since: 2024

Field of expertise: Restoration ecology, carbon dynamics, biotic interactions, plant propagation

Short biography:

Dr. Fierro is an Associate Professor at the School of Earth, Environmental, and Marine Sciences (SEEMS) and the School of Integrative Biological and Chemical Sciences (SIBCS). His current research and teaching focus is on restoration ecology as it applies to coastal terrestrial and aquatic ecosystems (thornsforest, dunes, estuaries, mangroves/saltmarsh, resacas). In the context of ecosystem restoration, he explores the recovery of functional attributes including organic matter turnover, carbon storage and nitrogen cycling, as well as some structural attributes and plant-plant/plant-animal interactions with potentially significant influence on the natural or assisted recovery of native habitats.
