eDiscovery for Paralegals
eDiscovery is a critical part of the litigation process, and the demand for expertise in this area is growing. With a paralegal certificate or a year of legal experience, you're ready to dive deeper into advanced eDiscovery techniques to conduct discovery activities effectively and efficiently.
Course Overview
The eDiscovery for Paralegals Course is perfect for those new to the field and professionals looking to expand their knowledge. This 7-week course, endorsed by ACEDS (the gold standard in eDiscovery training), covers the entire eDiscovery process, including:
- Preparation: Essential strategies and tools for getting ready.
- Collection: Effective methods for gathering Electronically Stored Information (ESI).
- Review: Techniques for reviewing and managing ESI.
This program is provided in partnership with Center for Legal Studies (CLS), a BARBRI company, a leading continuing education company.
Details:
Legal projects increasingly involve technology-assisted review, making paralegals with discovery expertise crucial. Through 17 online modules and tests, you'll learn:
- Basics of eDiscovery preparation.
- Best practices for ESI collection.
- Comprehensive review processes.
A detailed textbook supplements the course, covering all relevant eDiscovery topics.
- Gain a fundamental understanding of ESI discovery in U.S. civil litigation.
- Learn best practices related to legal, technical, and ethical considerations.
This accelerated course requires an average of 8 hours per week for reading, online modules, and assignments. Extensions are not granted, and a minimum passing score of 70% is required on all tests and assignments.
Your grade will be based on the completion of 17 quizzes, four writing assignments, two exams, and class participation/Bulletin Board Submissions. Here's how it breaks down:
- Module Quizzes: 17 quizzes, each worth 5 points, comprising 17% of your grade.
- Writing Assignments: 4 assignments, each worth 50 points, comprising 40% of your grade.
- Exams: 2 exams, each worth 50 points, comprising 40% of your grade.
- Class Participation/Bulletin Board Submissions: Participation worth 10 points each, comprising 3% of your grade.
Note: PEWD program participants should be 18 years or older.
Note: If you are applying for the Continuing Education Private Loan to cover the registration fee for a non-credit continuing education program, then please use the UTRGV Continuing Education School Code: 003599. The loan amount you note in the application cannot exceed the open enrollment fee noted on our website. Books will NOT be included in the loan amount. The minimum for the loans must be $500.00. Some service charges may apply.
