NEW Learning Management System Coming Next Summer!

We are excited to announce that UTRGV will be transitioning to Brightspace, a robust and user-friendly learning management system (LMS), over the course of the next academic year. To prepare for the Summer 2025 full launch of all courses in Brightspace, our implementation planning team will be working closely with the colleges and schools to ensure a smooth transition for faculty and students.

As part of a thorough review process, Brightspace was carefully evaluated by faculty and other key stakeholders and was selected for its outstanding features and functionality, as well as its widespread adoption by other prominent universities, such as Purdue, SUNY (State University of New York) system, and the University of Southern California.

We are looking forward to a variety of Brightspace features that will significantly enhance the teaching and learning experiences of our students and faculty, including:

  • a modern interface and intuitive navigation (with fewer clicks to get things done!);
  • simplified content creation tools that will empower instructors to build compelling, engaging courses;
  • integrated communication tools (announcements, email, and instant messages) that allow students to connect with instructors and peers seamlessly and efficiently; and
  • the convenience of full mobile accessibility and the ability to access courses and submit and grade assignments from anywhere.

Again, UTRGV’s full adoption of Brightspace will not take effect until Summer 2025. A robust implementation process, developed with faculty and student feedback, will ensure all have a chance to explore the new system and get their courses ready for launch. Until then, our current LMS (Blackboard) will be active and available. For any questions or assistance related to Brightspace and this transition, please email Brightspace@utrgv.edu. Dr. Francisco Garcia (COLTT director) and the COLTT staff will be available to help answer questions, as well. Your department, college/school leadership, and faculty and student governance groups will also be important partners in this transition.

We are excited about the opportunities that Brightspace will bring to our educational community. Stay tuned for further updates and instructions as we prepare for this university-wide upgrade.

Sincerely,

Dr. Luis H. Zayas, Provost and Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs

Dr. Jonikka Charlton, Senior Vice Provost for Student Success and Academic Affairs
